Small Groups – How To Begin Well
Small Groups at MCC are a great way to connect and grow, but they don’t just happen. The best Small Groups have some organization mixed into the organic, communal, relational stuff. We want to suggest that you discuss the following roles and identify who can fill them for your group (and yes, they can be shared!).
Communicator
Every Small Group should have a plan for communicating (text, email) and with it someone who will keep the group connected about meeting dates and times, prayer needs, special events, and other things. A friendly reminder when a meeting is approaching, an update for prayer, if you can identify someone in the group to be the communicator the whole group will benefit.
Discussion Facilitator
Small Groups at MCC have a discipleship element to them, we want our groups to help us all become more like Jesus. This happens as we work through the recommended curriculum each year. We strongly encourage that each Small Group identify someone who will help the group discuss the material. We have a separate how to guide for Small Group Discussion facilitators here. MCC also provides special training for this role (watch the newsletter for upcoming opportunities).
Coordinator
We recommend that Small Groups a MCC include food. The New Testament Church was centered in the home. And the center of those homes was the table. We think retaining this part of our history is good and beautiful. But what will we eat? Who will bring the food. The Small Group Coordinator takes the role of pulling together this part of the group experience.
We hope your group gets off to a great start, that you learn to love each other, and that you find ways to grow together as people who love and follow Jesus.
